Small sign without destination information shows that the Warrington Waters Cycle Route turns right into Riverside Close. There is no sign for cyclists heading in the opposite direction.

Pinch point on Manchester Road

Two-stage pedestrian crossing results in dangerous pinch points in the carriageway. The blue car can be seen to be braking hard as the driver realises at the last minute that there isn't room to overtake the cyclist through the gap.

Woolston Weir. Cycle route crosses the Mersey here, providing a useful (if a bit rough in places) route between Woolston and Latchford.

Greenway constructed as part of the Mersey flood defence. Resonably wide, well surfaced and a gentle ramp up to the level of the flood deffence barrier. Motor vehicle access prevented by bollards with reflective strips.

A 500m long stretch of the Trans Pennine Trail with a decent tarmac surface - could do with cleaning as mud tends to accumulate in the cutting.

Very long left hand filter lane for Hunts Lane means that cyclists heading straight on the A50 towards Warrington need to filter into lane 2. This is very intimidating on a busy A road.

Very narrow cycle lane made even wose by centre hatching.

Walton Lea Road makes for a useful and quiet cycle route. Care needs to be taken as this is the pedestrian route from Walton Gardens to the car park.

Locked gate. The gap to the left is difficult to get through, even with just a standard bike.

Barrier keeps out motor vehicles - but gap is wide enough for cyclists to ride through.

Tans Pennine Trail (NCN 62) is narrow, poorly surfaced and tends to form large puddles in this stretch (photo shot after a dry spell in summer).

Trans Pennine Trail (NCN 62) follows an indirect, narrow & poorly surfaced diversion round the sewage works.

Cycle bridge. I'm not sure how the expense was justified being as how Barnard Street crosses a perfectly acceptable bridge imediately to the north.

Very narrow, fenced and overgrown cyclepath

Solar powered LED and reflective edge of cycleway stud. It is used here to mark the way across a level crossing, but could be used much more widely to mark the edges of unlit cycleways.

D&M Cycles

Toucan crossing. Allows cyclists to use Hood Lane (which would otherwise be severed by the dual carriageway) as a direct N-S route. A pitty about the long delay between pushing the button and the signal changing.
